The pong pong tree can be found on the premises of TCDF Eco-Logic, near the restaurant and near the accommodation.
The Pong Pong tree, can grow up to 0 meter in height. The tree has dark foliage and showy, white flowers which are very fragrant. The whorled leaves are crowded near the ends of rather thickish branches with leaf scars below. The fragrant white flowers have a yellow throat.
The tree bears round, green, mango like fruits. The seed coat is thin and after falling, soon decays, exposing fibrous tissue.
NOTE: The seed kernels are extremely poisonous, if ingested can be fatal (the poison is able to block the calcium-ion channels within the heart muscle, causing cardiac arrest). This is why the 'Pong Pong' tree, is also known as the 'suicide' tree.
